This is a voluntary working relationship with the City of Cape Town and the Cape Bird Club since 1983.
The breeding banks at Strandfontein get a hair cut!
Unfortunately the breeding banks at Strandfontein have not been successful to date, probably because of the soil mix used to fill the pipes which was possibly too hard. We have now refilled the pipes with a loamy potting soil. We have also cut back the ‘curtain’ of vegetation covering the banks.
So here’s hoping …… If anyone sees birds (kingfishers or martins) using the breeding banks, please let a committee member know.
