Hacking Team at Zandvlei Nature Reserve – 10 August 2024.

This is a voluntary working relationship with the City of Cape Town and the Cape Bird Club since 1978.

Following on from last month todays hack was cancelled as well. Constant rain and strong winds have been blowing all day and it is another first for the hacking team, 2 monthly hacks cancelled in succession.

I took more photos to record of the conditions on the day at 13h30. There were a few hard core surfers out in the waves near the estuary mouth. the odd Kelp Gull and Cape Cormorant flew up the estuary while I was photographing there. Then down to the “new wetland” opposite the Solid Waste Dept in Main Road with the Old Boyes Drive section of the Zandvlei Nature Reserve behind and up the slope where we are working.

There were 2 resident Yellow billed Ducks paddling about in this seasonal wetland which is knee deep in places with the good rain fall we have had in the last 6 weeks.

See this link for the past reports of what we have done.
