08 February 2020 – Zandvlei Nature Reserve.
The Conservation Committee had their annual social get together at the newly renovated facility at the Zandvlei Nature Reserve.
Dave and Sue Whitelaw, Simon and Stella Fogarty, Felicity Ellmore, Dick and Ermien Bos, Clifford and Suretha Dorse, Dieter and Milo Oschadleus, Gavin Lawson and Veronica Morris enjoyed a braai done by Clifford the braai master. The wind was howling from the SE, which soon had the fire up to temparature. We heard from the caretaker that wind screens are to be made for the braai area to help make it more comfortable.
Inside, and out of the wind the tables were set with the rest of the goodies to eat and drink. This is the first year we have had Dick and Amee at the get together as they are usually in the northern hemisphere at this time of the year.
Milo had a wonderful time with lots of space to run around with his youthful energy. The nearly full moon rose behind the mountains across the Cape Flats.
Jus before pudding time the Nature Reserve Manager Kyran Wright, Berenice Naidoo and the rest of the team were setting off on a night patrol in certain parts of the Reserve to make sure poachers were not operating in the bright full moon light as the estuary mouth was open with the movement of fish in and out of the estuary.
We all left by 21h30 as most had early morning starts the following day.
