Floreat Environmental Club News for August and September 2024.
On Saturday 31 August 2024, we took a group of 38 Floreat learners up the mountain on one of the most stunning sunny days Cape Town has had in a while. For many of these children, it was their first time hiking, but after a bit of effort and determination, we made it to Cecilia Waterfall. There, we enjoyed some snacks and cooled down under the refreshing water. The children had an absolute blast, exclaiming, “Wow, this was so worth it!”, “Look at that view!”, and “We love nature!”.
Thank you to Penny Dichmont and Sheila Scott from the CBC as well as Joel Simons from Ingcungcu for joining in on the fun.
After being postponed three times due to weather, the Floreat group finally got their Table Mountain adventure!
On 11 September 2024, a group of 50 learners took the cable car up the mountain for an exciting lesson on Fire in the Fynbos, Dassies, Red-winged Starlings, and the history of the Cape.
For most of the learners (and their teachers), it was their first time on top of Table Mountain and their first chance to see Cape Town from above. The afternoon was a big hit, and the learners are already asking when they can ride the cable car again!
On the sunny spring morning of 14 September 2024, some members of the CBC got their hands dirty helping out in the garden at Floreat Primary School.
We spent the morning weeding and planting seedlings alongside the school’s gardening group, getting a first hand look at the progress made with the club’s funding.
After a long morning in the hot sun, both adults and learners enjoyed a well-deserved ice lolly. Thank you to all the members who joined on this rewarding morning.
