Events at the WCFSC during 2004.
August 2004
Les Benson who started “les Collectables” in Plumstead from a very small capital outlay, gave a lecture on “how to be an entrepreneur” to some of the TB patients at the Brooklyn Chest Hospital. This part of Frank’s classes for self improvement and upliftment took place in August 2004.
July 2004
These boys from Alcana School in Tableview, have to do 300 hours of community service, as part of their high school education curriculum. Frank says “they worked hard for 6 hours digging over the vegetable beds in preparation for planting”.
This barn owl is one of a few of Franks special friends, roosting up during the day in July 2004.
April 2004
This is the path that the Blaauberg Municiplaity cleared alongside the Wetlands and on the western side of the West Coast Fields Study Centre. It has wood chips for a base lined with gumtree poles. Many of the poles have been removed for firewood by vagrants in the area.
Behind Frank in the background, is the National monument Klein Zoar an original Dutch farmstead, where Wolraad Woltemarde lived. He died after rescuing 30 ship wrecked survivors in 1790, by riding into the sea with his horse.
In April 2004 the geyser above the laboratory burst flooding the ceiling and it crashed down on the books and equipment. So until it is repaired Frank had to relocate the lab in an adjoining room some distance away.
