This is a working partnership with the City of Cape Town and the Cape Bird Club.
Eric Barnes started the counts here in 1992.
It is a City of Cape Town sewerage works and a natural vlei adjoining it in the Fish Hoek valley at the southern end of the Noordhoek beach. This water bird site, together with the other City sewerage work sites are now recognised and accepted as important bird habitats spread across the Cape Flats. These sites are more valuable now due to the natural seasonal water bodies being impacted by human developments.
Gillian Barnes continues to co-ordinate these counts.
Counts take place on the second Thursday of every month and start at 08:00.
