Outing to the Mount Royal Golf and Country Estate, Malmesbury.
05 March 2020 – by Daryl & Lynette de Beer.

On Thursday, 05 March, the CBC visited Mount Royal Golf and Country Estate just outside Malmesbury in the Swartland. The Estate is positioned on a hillside and is surrounded by a renosterveld conservation area and wheat and canola fields.
We were very well received on the Estate and were pleased to be joined on our walk-about by three of the residents.
Twenty-five birders set off from the sales Office at 08:00. The area is very dry and the walk around the two ponds and the drive through the open renosterveld yielded only 44 species – Chestnut-vented Tit-babbler; Namaqua Dove; Bokmakierie; Crowned Lapwing; Levaillant’s Cisticola; Red-faced Mousebirds; Stonechat, to name a few.
On our return to the Sales Office at 12 noon, we each received a welcome and much needed fruit juice. It was a lovely morning in the outdoors with friendly banter and enjoyable birding.
We wish to thank Andre Halvorsen, the Estate Manager for his hospitality and Simon Fogarty for leading the group.
