Outing to Paardevlei and Macassar.
19 May 2024 – Led by Charles Britz.
Charles Britz, a member of the Somerset West Bird Club led the CBC outing to Paardevlei on Sunday 19 May 2024. We had 33 participants, including members, visitors and friends.

Unfortunately the water levels were low, so most of our time was spent viewing land and bush birds, with a few water birds contributing to a species total of 45 birds.
The highlight of the morning was the sighting of two African Fish Eagles disdainfully putting up with a Pied Crow’s nonsense. Other species included Pin-tailed Whydah, Three-banded Plover, Cape Longclaw and both Yellow and Southern Red Bishops.
After most of the participants had returned to Cape Town, about ten of us ventured to Macassar, where several more species were seen. This was a first visit to this venue for several birders and I am sure Macassar has a few new converts.
Thank you, Charles, for spending time with us and also to everybody that made the outing an enjoyable occasion.
