Hacking Team at Zandvlei Nature Reserve – 10 May 2025.

This is a voluntary working relationship with the City of Cape Town and the Cape Bird Club since 1978.

Bert and I decided to cancel the hack today, due to the weather conditions and the estuary mouth was closed with the water level very high and plentyf water coming in from the catchment. It had rained heavily over night and this morning with heavy showers and more due this afternoon from the NW with fairly strong wind blowing. The area where we would be working was ankle deep in water. There were a few Common Terns flying about with the odd Kelp and Hartlaubs Gulls and very little else to be seen on the water or in the air.

We do need some younger volunteers for this job, so if any of you out there are interested in  helping you are assisting the Nature Reserve staff who cant cover all the bases they are responsible for. Contact me if you are interested.
