This is a working relationship with the City of Cape Town and the Zandvlei Trust.
The ‘Friends of Bokmakierie Park’ and the the regular hack group cleared a large section of Rooikraans, Manatokas and Port Jackson from the ‘public open space’ (which we named Grysbok Park after finding an active midden) bounded by Prince George Drive, Royal, Margate and Clifton Roads in Muizenberg on 03/02/2007. This valuable natural land as part of the coastal corridor and link to the Koegelberg Biosphere from the Table Mountain range.
This land has been neglected by the City for years and the local people decided to adopt it and do something about its viability as an natural asset.
In time Zandvlei Trust will motivate and lobby to have this area incorporated into the Greater Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve. The City has plans to develop 3 erven on this land.
Bowen, Nicky, Una and Karen removing a Rooikrans bush.
The ‘Friends of Bokmakkierie Park’ have adopted this area and will monitor and rehabilitate the area with any additional local residential volunteer help.
