    Albatrosses are majestic seabirds that spend much of their lives soaring over vast ocean expanses, scavenging for food. Tragically, they are frequently caught unintentionally in fishing gear – a phenomenon known as bycatch. This is one of the major drivers of population declines, with 15 of the 22 albatross species now threatened with extinction. In this talk, Reason will share insights from his nine-year tenure as BirdLife South Africa’s Albatross Task Force Project Manager, drawing on extensive time spent aboard a range of commercial fishing vessels.
