Evening Meeting: 2025 Annual General Meeting of the Cape Bird Club. Local is Lekker. Speaker Mike Buckham.

Nassau Centre, Groote Schuur High School 77 Palmyra Road, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Don’t miss your club’s AGM! Mike Buckham will present the Chairman’s report and other AGM matters, and Joy Fish will present the Club’s financial statements. Our Chairman has a passion for endemic birds, and following the business of the meeting, he will talk about some of his memorable moments trying to see all of them. Mike will also give a few pointers as to where some of the best places are to find the trickier ones. It will be a journey through some of South Africa's most beautiful places in search of some of our most treasured birds.

Evening Meeting: Pharoah’s Birds. Speaker: John Lombard.

Nassau Centre, Groote Schuur High School 77 Palmyra Road, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

This presentation combines John’s passion for both Ancient Egypt and birding. The Ancient Egyptians used 73 birds in their very picturesque hieroglyphic writings, and we will see how they used them to communicate and to convey the history of Ancient Egypt especially on their temples, tombs and elsewhere. The Ancient Egyptian civilisation spanned a period of more than 3000 years during which more than 450 pharaohs ruled during 31 dynasties.

Evening Meeting: Neurodiversity in Birding. Speaker: Michael Mason.

Nassau Centre, Groote Schuur High School 77 Palmyra Road, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

In his talk, Michael celebrates diversity amongst birders, birds, and nature. As always, stunning bird photography and interesting facts about birds abound, as he weaves the story of the spectrum of people and motivations that are drawn to the beautiful world of birds.

Evening Meeting: Zambia Birding and Research. Speaker: Joel Radue.

Nassau Centre, Groote Schuur High School 77 Palmyra Road, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Joel was fortunate to visit southern Zambia for fieldwork during his studies at the FitzPatrick Institute. He will cover some of the Miombo birding, as well as sharing some of his research on the fascinating world of nightjars, plovers and coursers.

Evening Meeting: Toucans, Tanagers, and birds that hum. Speaker: Trevor Hardaker.

Nassau Centre, Groote Schuur High School 77 Palmyra Road, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Well known to many club members as Mr Rarity through his bi-weekly SA Rare Bird News Report and as a pelagic operator with Zest for Birds, Trevor will thrill us with incredible sightings enjoyed on a trip to Ecuador at the end of 2024. The long trip list included many iconic South American bird and mammal species. Trevor is a long-standing member of the club and is a former club chairman.
