Meet at 08h00. Area is 1116ha in size and is one of the 24 official City of Cape Town Nature Reserves. The vegetation consists of Cape Flats Dune Strandveld. We can expect to see bush birds, waders, and shorebirds. Bring chairs and refreshments. Directions: From the N2 take exit 38. At the junction turn right onto the M9/Macassar Road towards Firgrove. Turn left onto Tie Road, cross the bridge over the Eerste River and follow the road past the waterworks to the parking area at the coast, where we meet.

The Witzands Area includes the Atlantis Dunefields and the Silwerstroomstrand Conservation Area, and protects not only the Atlantis Aquifer, the main water supply for Atlantis, Mamre and Pella, but also more than 163 plant species. Cape Flats Dune Strandveld and Atlantis Sand Fynbos are the two main vegetation types. More than 50 species of water birds roost, breed, and feed in the many wetlands, and lizards, amphibians, and mammals such as steenbok, Cape grysbok, grey mongoose, Cape mole rat and caracal have all been recorded here.
