The Cape Bird Club members have been helping the City of Cape Town by clearing invasive alien vegetation since 1974, when Alan Morris started this activity in the Wildwood Bird Sanctuary, now the Zandvlei Nature Reserve. Come and help our core group, clear seedlings, saplings and cut down trees too. Small school groups or individuals who need to do their social responsibility projects are welcome too. Meet at the Main Gate of the Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve before 08h00. All are welcome, experienced or not. If you are new to birding, I shall put you into a group which will help you learn quickly and easily. There is always something new to be seen or heard. Helderberg Nature Reserve Helderberg Nature Reserve, Verster Avenue, Somerset West, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

Meet at 08h30. This reserve is known for its mountain fynbos and a large variety of Proteas. Five of the six fynbos endemics are found here, namely, Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Siskin, Victorin’s Warbler, and Protea Seedeater. Directions: Take the N2 from Cape Town and turn left at the Somerset West/Strand intersection (Broadway). Turn right into Main Road. Follow the road to the Lourensford Road intersection where you turn left. Drive for some distance until you see a Shell garage. Tygerberg Nature Reserve 1 Totius Street, Welgemoed, Cape Town, Western Province, South Africa

Meet at 08h30. Tygerberg Nature Reserve is a 309 hectare reserve on the Tygerberg Hills. It supports one of the last remnants of the critically endangered Swartland Shale Renosterveld vegetation type and boasts 562 plant species. The reserve has 137 bird species recorded, including Black-winged Kite, Peregrine Falcon, and Barn Owl. The area is hilly and requires a level of fitness. Wear good walking shoes. Meet at 08h30. This reserve near Muizenberg is normally closed on weekends but we have arranged for the club to have access. It includes wetlands, a river system, and an estuary. Directions: From the Main Road in Retreat, turn into Military Road at the Lavender Hill sign and continue over the level crossing. At the first set of traffic lights turn right into Coniston Road.
