Evening Meeting: Pharoah’s Birds. Speaker: John Lombard.

Nassau Centre, Groote Schuur High School 77 Palmyra Road, Newlands, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

This presentation combines John’s passion for both Ancient Egypt and birding. The Ancient Egyptians used 73 birds in their very picturesque hieroglyphic writings, and we will see how they used them to communicate and to convey the history of Ancient Egypt especially on their temples, tombs and elsewhere. The Ancient Egyptian civilisation spanned a period of more than 3000 years during which more than 450 pharaohs ruled during 31 dynasties.

The Cape Bird Club members have been helping the City of Cape Town by clearing invasive alien vegetation since 1974, when Alan Morris started this activity in the Wildwood Bird Sanctuary, now the Zandvlei Nature Reserve. Come and help our core group, clear seedlings, saplings and cut down trees too. Small school groups or individuals who need to do their social responsibility projects are welcome too. See this link for more of what we do.
