    Meet at 08h30 at the Sunbird Centre. The walking trail follows the middle section of the Silvermine River at the western end of Kleintuin mountain. We can expect to see a number of fynbos endemics such as Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Siskin. Other species include Bar- throated Apalis, Cape Grassbird, Cape Robin-chat, Jackal Buzzard, Southern Boubou, and Bokmakierie. Directions: Travel along Ou Kaapse Weg towards Fish Hoek until you see Silvermine Retirement Village / Noordhoek Manor / Silvermine Road on your right.   • OUTING – Rondevlei Nature Reserve. Leader: Merle Chalton.

    Rondevlei Nature Reserve Perth Rd & Fishermens Walk, Zeekoei Vlei, Cape Town, South Africa

    Meet at 08h00.  These regular monthly outings are for all Rondevlei enthusiasts and beginners are especially welcome. Duration 2 1⁄2 hours, but you can stay as long as you like. Bring a warm anorak even if it is a hot day as it can get cold in the hides. Entrance is free. Entrance is free, but remember to bring your ID, driver’s licence, or passport in order to obtain an entry permit at the gate.

    Albatrosses are majestic seabirds that spend much of their lives soaring over vast ocean expanses, scavenging for food. Tragically, they are frequently caught unintentionally in fishing gear – a phenomenon known as bycatch. This is one of the major drivers of population declines, with 15 of the 22 albatross species now threatened with extinction. In this talk, Reason will share insights from his nine-year tenure as BirdLife South Africa’s Albatross Task Force Project Manager, drawing on extensive time spent aboard a range of commercial fishing vessels.   • Zandvlei Hack.

    Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve cor Derwent Cresent and Coniston Avemue, Steenberg, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

    The Cape Bird Club members have been helping the City of Cape Town by clearing invasive alien vegetation since 1974, when Alan Morris started this activity in the Wildwood Bird Sanctuary, now the Zandvlei Nature Reserve. Come and help our core group, clear seedlings, saplings and cut down trees too. Small school groups or individuals who need to do their social responsibility projects are welcome too.     Meet at 07h30. The Moravian church in Mamre is South Africa’s fifth oldest church and was completed in 1818 and was declared a National Monument in 1967. We will do some farmland birding and also spend some time on the church grounds. An early start gives us the advantage of beating the heat and seeing some of the birds before they retreat for the day. Some migrants, such as Spotted Flycatcher and Willow Warbler might still be around, and other possible birds include Greater and Lesser Honeyguide, Olive and Cardinal Woodpecker, African Hoopoe, and maybe even a Brown Snake Eagle. … Continued
