Meet at 09h30 in the parking area outside the Rooi Els restaurant/ shopping centre. We will walk along the gravel road at Rooi Els to look for Cape Rockjumpers, Ground Woodpeckers, and (hopefully!) a Sentinel Rock Thrush. We will then visit the beautiful Harold Porter Botanical Garden (a small entrance fee is payable unless you are a member of the Botanical Society, so remember your membership card). This garden is one of the best places to find the elusive Victorin’s Warbler and other endemics such as Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird, and Cape Siskin. Bring tea and snacks. Meet at 09h00. Area is 1116ha in size and is one of the 24 official City of Cape Town Nature Reserves. The vegetation consists of Cape Flats Dune Strandveld. We can expect to see bush birds, waders, and shorebirds. Bring chairs and refreshments. Directions: From the N2 take exit 38. At the junction turn right onto the M9/Macassar Road towards Firgrove. Meet at 08h00. We will bird along the Darling Hills Road where we hope to see larks, pipits, African Stonechats, Capped Wheatears, and European Bee-eaters among others. After about 10km we will turn right and visit the Groote Post Bird Hide. Bring along chairs and your refreshments to enjoy under the trees at Groote Post. Directions: From Cape Town follow the R27 towards Langebaan. Turn right onto the Darling Hills Road opposite the Grotto Bay turn-off. We will meet here, at the turn-off, at 08h00.
Witzands Aquifer Conservation Area

Meet at 08h30. The Witzands Area includes the Atlantis Dunefields and the Silwerstroomstrand Conservation Area, and protects not only the Atlantis Aquifer, the main water supply for Atlantis, Mamre and Pella, but also more than 163 plant species. Cape Flats Dune Strandveld and Atlantis Sand Fynbos are the two main vegetation types. More than 50 species of water birds roost, breed, and feed in the many wetlands, and lizards, amphibians, and mammals such as Steenbok, Cape Grysbok, Grey Mongoose, Cape Mole rat and Caracal have all been recorded here. Tygerberg Nature Reserve

Meet at 08h30. Tygerberg Nature Reserve is a 309 hectare reserve on the Tygerberg Hills. It supports one of the last remnants of the critically endangered Swartland Shale Renosterveld vegetation type and boasts 562 plant species. The reserve has 137 bird species recorded, including Black-winged Kite, Peregrine Falcon, and Barn Owl. We will take the Watsonia Walk which is not steep and a lot safer in wet conditions.
