Meet at 08h00. We will meet at the Wolfgat Multi-Purpose Environmental Education Centre and do a walk through the reserve. We should see the European Bee Eaters which nest here annually. Meet at the Main Gate of the Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve before 08h00. All are welcome, experienced or not. If you are new to birding, I shall put you into a group which will help you learn quickly and easily. There is always something new to be seen or heard. The Witzands Area includes the Atlantis Dunefields and the Silwerstroomstrand Conservation Area, and protects not only the Atlantis Aquifer, the main water supply for Atlantis, Mamre and Pella, but also more than 163 plant species. Cape Flats Dune Strandveld and Atlantis Sand Fynbos are the two main vegetation types. More than 50 species of water birds roost, breed, and feed in the many wetlands, and lizards, amphibians, and mammals such as steenbok, Cape grysbok, grey mongoose, Cape mole rat and caracal have all been recorded here. Meet at 08h00. These regular monthly outings are for all Rondevlei enthusiasts and beginners are especially welcome. Duration 2 1⁄2 hours, but you can stay as long as you like. Bring a warm anorak even if it is a hot day as it can get cold in the hides. Entrance is free. Entrance is free, but remember to bring your ID, driver’s licence, or passport in order to obtain an entry permit at the gate.
