    Meet at 08h30 at the Sunbird Centre. The walking trail follows the middle section of the Silvermine River at the western end of Kleintuin mountain. We can expect to see a number of fynbos endemics such as Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird, Cape Siskin. Other species include Bar- throated Apalis, Cape Grassbird, Cape Robin-chat, Jackal Buzzard, Southern Boubou, and Bokmakierie.     Meet at 08h00.  These regular monthly outings are for all Rondevlei enthusiasts and beginners are especially welcome. Duration 2 1⁄2 hours, but you can stay as long as you like. Bring a warm anorak even if it is a hot day as it can get cold in the hides. Entrance is free. Entrance is free, but remember to bring your ID, driver’s licence, or passport in order to obtain an entry permit at the gate.

    Albatrosses are majestic seabirds that spend much of their lives soaring over vast ocean expanses, scavenging for food. Tragically, they are frequently caught unintentionally in fishing gear – a phenomenon known as bycatch. This is one of the major drivers of population declines, with 15 of the 22 albatross species now threatened with extinction. In this talk, Reason will share insights from his nine-year tenure as BirdLife South Africa’s Albatross Task Force Project Manager, drawing on extensive time spent aboard a range of commercial fishing vessels.     The Cape Bird Club members have been helping the City of Cape Town by clearing invasive alien vegetation since 1974, when Alan Morris started this activity in the Wildwood Bird Sanctuary, now the Zandvlei Nature Reserve. Come and help our core group, clear seedlings, saplings and cut down trees too. Small school groups or individuals who need to do their social responsibility projects are welcome too.
