15 March 2023 – Visiting the Westridge Park, Mitchells Plain, Cape Town.
Clifford Dorse co-ordinated the visit for the Conservation Committee members and a 75th Anniversary funding sub committee of the Main Committee and were invited to see the developments at this City of Cape Town – Recreation and Parks district park. An Environmental Centre similar to what was developed at the Biodiversity Show Case Garden at Greenpoint is in the planning stages.
Clifford suggested that a series of signs on “Birds of the Cape Flats” would be extremely valuable. There could eventually be a series which would include:
1. Urban Spaces
2. Wetlands
3. Strandveld
4. Rocky and sandy coastline
A ‘Birds of the Cape Flats – Urban Spaces’ poster would be the priority to develop as it could be used in every school, park or library on the Cape Flats. It would include the common and obvious birds found in the urban areas.
Everyone found the visit enlightening and informative to help make their decisions.
