Hacking Team at Zandvlei Nature Reserve – October 2009.

This is a working relationship with the City of Cape Town and the Zandvlei Trust.

At Old Boyes Drive site the wind was howling from the SE. It was too strong for the kites at the annual Cape Town Kite Festival taking place at Zandvlei down below us. We had some shelter from the wind in amongst the shrubs and trees.
We managed to cut down significant amount of gumtree saplings, Port Jackson and Manatoka trees.
There are lovely patches of indigenous plants still surviving. We saw a group of Morea setifolia (papieruintjie or a bokuintjie).
Demetri Qually the local Ward Councilor doing his part to help rid the exotic vegetation from the hillside. Chris and Robin Hosking cutting down the invasives. Declan Ross hauled this branch out of the way. Una Hartley treated this stump so it wont grow again. Bert Bron also sawed the Port Jacksons down.
