Hacking Team at Zandvlei Nature Reserve – January 2013.

This is a working relationship with the City of Cape Town and the Zandvlei Trust.

Another very hot, sunny day. We are back at the Old Boyes Drive site. Barry carried on with the large lantana shrub. Sue also by digging out the lantana stump from last year. Milan and Sue dug out the Prickly Pear stump and found more growing nearby. There are more Australian Myrtle seedlings and shrubs we found some which have copsed from previous cutting, by who knows who. We found plenty of Port Jackson seedlings in a clearing which Tanya pulled out, she also cut down a large sappling. The Pampas Grass was started on and the roots bagged for removal with the prickly pear and lanatana stumps.

Very few birds were seen probably due to the heat and time of day. Laughing Dove, Red eye Doves were present. We did not see a butterfly, which seem to be present most months on this site. A small Slug eater Snake was seen in the base of the Pampas Grass where some garden snails were present in the leaf litter.
