The first Annual General Meeting on the 19th July 2011.

The day has arrived to get the process moving. A lot of background organising, learning about the formalities of meetings, constitutions, Exco members, reporting procedures, finding a Treasurer to look after the finances has taken place behind the scenes.
There are enthusiastic people in the community who are willing to help get this club up and running to be self supporting and independant. We all wish them many years of wonderful birding and conserving the habitats for the birds in Philippi.

The early birds keenly waiting for the meeting to start.

It was a cold night and there some warm smilling faces.

Victor Stegmann making notes for the meeting, while John Beak, Anne Gray and Nazeer discuss last minute arrangements.

It is wonderful to have children of all ages excited to come along with their parents.

They even come with very small children - on the right. Starting them young is good.

Nazeer sticking the posters up, he is being helped by a keen young Club member.

Waiting for procedings to start, there was a small hitch with a wall socket not working.

A very good attendance for the first AGM.

Nazeer welcoming everyone and introducing the agenda for the evening.

Part of the audience listening to the introductions.

Naqeeb Sonday getting the details of those who had not yet signed
the attendance register for the meeting.

The formalities - there were 6 prior written nominations for the Exco, with another accepted from the floor.

The show of hands as acceptance of the nominated persons who will caucus and elect the office bearers as required by the club constitution at the next meeting.

Dr Rapiti an honorary Life Member of the Flamingo Bird Club gave a general talk about the environment we live in. He emphasised we should use our heads, and always question what and who are negatively influencing and impacting on our environment as many by-products of "modern life styles" can and are causing harm to our natural and built environment.

Then for the talk by Otto Schmidt and past Chairman of the Cape Bird Club. He grew up and went to school in Philippi. He has seen the changes and the pressures of development on the agricultural area, and the wetlands have been considerably reduced in size over the last half centuary.

Otto took us through a very interesting tour of the gardens and explained where we could see the different species and why. From the big raptors in the sky, down onto the ground where some birds nest. His talk showed a very good variety one could expect to see in any given season at Kirstenbosch.

Nazeer thanked Otto on behalf of the members and friends, tea and biscuits were served afterwards.

Dr Rapiti and Gadija Sonday a new FBC member.

New members speaking to Nazeer.                                    Parents brought their children along.

Anne the organiser made sure all was running smoothly.  It was time to network and form future plans.

The tea and biscuits were good on the cold night.

The children were having fun.

This little fella wanted his photo taken please.     The ever busy Naqeeb, helping roll up the
                                                                       extension cord for Otto.

A very successful evening which bodes well for the clubs future.
