The Cape Bird Club

Blaauberg Conservation Area  – 21 August 2005.

Table Mountain and Cape Town, across Table Bay from Blaauberg.

Heather Howell reports that the weather was cold and overcast with showers. There were 17 CBC souls who braved the weather with Clifford Dorse as the leader, to see the progress at Blaauberg since 2004.

Everyone enjoyed the outing because of Cliff's enthusiasm and his explanations regarding his visions for the Reserve.  Views from the top were not "picture postcard" but heavy skies and dark mountains have their own appeal.

In this photo Clifford explaining the conservation work to restore the worst track, known as "Widow – maker". This is one of 4 huge scars left by irresponsible people in "off road vehicles" who "trashed the mountain" before Clifford arrived and took control of the situation 2 years ago.

Gladiolus alatus.

Much "botanising" was done as not many birds were around. One example of the beautiful flowers that grow at this unique Mountain Reserve area.
