Dear CBC Members,
Many of you are no doubt
aware of the bird watching potential of the Cerebos Works along the Berg River
at Velddrif.
These Works are classified as a Mining Area, and as such members of the public are not allowed to enter it.
However, recent discussions with Steve Lombard
(the Manager of the Works) has made available for the CBC members to be allowed
entry into the area, if the following steps are followed:
- Anyone wishing to visit the area, must park their car in the parking area immediately adjacent to their
boom, this is outside the Works and just off the N27 before the road bridge.
- Present themselves to the security office and sign an indemnity
form.
- Avoid the Works themselves and enter the salt pans as indicated
on the map in the office and ensure they are aware of the “No go” areas.
- Individuals wishing to bird in the areas to the
West and East of the N27 must
also sign the indemnity form, and sign for and collect the key to access the
Eastern area. You will be required to sign out on returning the key. Cars must remain parked in the
bays provided adjacent to the boom on the West side of the N27.
- Please note that no cars are allowed in the
Works.
