9 October 2004 Meeting, at the Municipal Boardroom, Stanford.

  • Gerhard Verdoorn, Director BLSA, intends the Society to be one of South Africa's foremost conservation bodies.

  • The strategy will be to move away from species based conservation and start working on Eco Region sites.

  • the BLSA, is to become the most prominent brand in conservation, in South Africa .

  • the goal is 1 million members by 2006.

  • BirdLife Overberg is launched to form satellite branches, to enable communities to be involved in avi-tourism and conservation at a local level.

26 June 2004 Meeting, at the Kristo Pienaar Centre, Tygerberg Nature Reserve.

  • Jan Fourie, Chairman of BLSA, emphasised that the Society's vision and primary purpose is to conserve birds and their habitats.

  • Samantha Peterson, Seabird Conservation Programme reports Scientific observers on South Africa's of fishing vessels 20% coverage.

  • Avitourism is a very important strategic initiative to create sources of funding for the Society.
